The fast pace of everyday life, work, relationships, responsibilities, and constant flow of information can leave us moving through our days almost on autopilot. We often know what we should be doing to support our well-being, yet find ourselves returning to the same habits, thought patterns, and choices.

Self-care is not necessarily neglected because of a lack of knowledge. More often, what is missing is the opportunity to pause, notice, and reflect on how we are really doing.

The National Institute for Health Development (TAI) wanted to create an online course that would help people develop a more conscious relationship with themselves, their thought patterns, habits, and needs. The aim was not to offer quick fixes, but to design a learning experience that encourages reflection, self-understanding, and small, intentional changes in everyday life.

Here's a closer look at the solution we created together.

‍

‍

🔎 1. Who Was Involved and Why?

MindShifters was responsible for the learning design, learner journey, and development of the online course.

Working closely with experts from the National Institute for Health Development, we explored and structured the course content, transforming it into a coherent learning experience that helps learners gradually build a deeper connection with themselves.

Our approach was grounded in the understanding that lasting change does not come from acquiring new knowledge alone. People also need opportunities to recognise their existing habits, reflect on their experiences, and make connections between their values, identity, and everyday choices.

The course was designed for all adults who want to take a more conscious approach to supporting their mental, emotional, and physical well-being and developing sustainable self-care practices.

🛠️ 2. The Solution

We created an online course that guides learners through six interconnected topics.

The learning journey begins with exploring one's current situation and gradually moves towards deeper self-understanding. Learners reflect on their well-being, life experiences, identity, thought patterns, and relationships, developing a clearer understanding of what supports them and what may be holding them back.

‍

‍

The course is divided in smaller learning bites

‍

To support learning, we incorporated a variety of learning design approaches:

  • Videos and guided reflections;
  • Worksheets and self-reflection exercises;
  • Practical models and tools;
  • Real-life examples and stories;
  • Step-by-step guided activities;
  • Discussion prompts and activities that encourage sharing.

‍

‍

‍

One of our key principles was to create a safe, non-judgmental learning environment. The course does not pressure learners to change or prescribe the right answers. Instead, it creates space to notice, reflect, and make choices that feel right for each individual.

Our learning design was guided by the idea that self-care is not a single activity or habit. It is the ability to build a conscious connection with ourselves, our needs, and the world around us.

💡 3. The Value and Impact of the Course

The completed online course helps learners move from acting on autopilot towards making more conscious choices.

The course supports learners in:

  • Recognising different aspects of their well-being and their needs;
  • Better understanding how past experiences influence their present-day choices;
  • Becoming more aware of their values and identity;
  • Recognising and reflecting on their thought patterns;
  • Listening more attentively to themselves and others;
  • Making small but lasting changes in their everyday lives.

The greatest value of this project lies in the fact that the course does not treat self-care as a checklist of activities.

Instead, it helps learners pause, make sense of their own stories, and develop a more conscious relationship with themselves and their well-being.

It is this relationship that forms the foundation for choices and habits that support well-being in the long term.
